On 21st August 2006, the famous Shehnai player Ustad Bismillah Khan left us today.

Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan, the sorcerer of the Shehnai, the age-old man of Indian classical music, has been one of the most respected musical personalities in the country. Born in Dumraon, a small town in Bihar, every breath of Khan Saheb was devoted to the notes of shehnai. He kept looking for liberation in music throughout his life by making Banaras his karmabhoomi.

In pursuit of this liberation, he played tireless shehnai from wedding weddings to international stage music. He was an authorized shehnai player of the Vishwanath temple in Kashi. Shehnai's voice in the Hindi film 'Gunj Uthi Shehnai' gave her a place in the hearts of common people of the country.

In Hindi film 'Swadesh' and Satyajit Ray's popular Bengali film 'Jalsaghar', he also spread the magic of his clarinet. Filmmaker Gautam Ghosh made his film 'Meet a Milestone', a touch of his musical insight. Despite all his achievements, Khan Sahib has never been satisfied with his music. Perhaps he was looking for the eighth tone that arises from his solitary dedication to music.

In an interview, he said - 'Where is the true tone now? In search of the same, we have been playing for so many years. When true note is made, then you will understand that we have reached the shelter of Baba Vishwanath.

It is not known whether the notes of the shehnai took him to the shelter of Baba Vishwanath or not, but when he reached the depths of our hearts. His simplicity, humility, a childlike smile, fakrana's life and his passion for music will continue to pave the way for future generations of music.
