 Firaq, born on August 28, 1896, can be called the sun of the world of evil.  Famous poet Nida Fazli places him third in the world of Urdu poetry after Ghalib and Mir.  Nida saheb says,

“Ghalib was the poet of many eras coming into his era.  In his era, he was not understood as much as was recognized in later eras.  Like every big mind, he also disappears from the eyes of his contemporaries.  The same thing can be said about Firaq Gorakhpuri. "

“आने वाली नस्लें तुम पर रश्क करेंगी हम असरों

जब भी उनको ध्यान आएगा, तुमने फ़िराक़ को देखा है”

This sheer poet has written for herself.  Critics can search for self-reliance in it.  Can be accused of arrogance, arrogance.  How close such charges will be to the truth, we do not know.  All we know is that these alphas later became reality.  Indeed, the world curses those who have seen Firaq Gorakhpuri.  His voice was heard sitting in front of him.  Guided him.  Attended the festival where he was present.

When Firaq changed the abuses into poetry


 Firaq was the last man.  Rasia of wine.  If you used to drink, you would drift away keeping it ashamed.  One such story wanders in the corridors of Mumbai.  Firaq Saheb's camp was in those days at the house of famous actress Nadira.  One day, he started to face the daughter of grapes from early morning.  By the afternoon, the tongue started to be controlled.  The abuses started coming out.  Nadira became upset.  When his bus could not handle Firaq, he sent a call to Ismat Chughtai.  Firaq became alert as soon as Ismat arrived there.  Started talking with Ismat on Urdu literature.  Nadira was shocked.  Said irritably,

 "Firaq sir, what were those abuses special to me?"

 Firaq replied innocently,

 "Now you must have understood how to turn abuses into poetry."

 Before Firaq, Shayari was either romantically or philosophically philosophical.  Firaq dragged him to daily life.  When the new ghazal phase began in Urdu, Firaq became the biggest flag bearer of this initiative.  He used to say that Urdu came to India for a long time.  But it is surprising that why the fields-barn, society-culture, Himalayas, Ganga-Jamuna are not visible in this?  He tried his best to remove this lady.  Successful try.  See the hallmark,

“लहरों में खिला कंवल नहाए जैसे
दोशीज़ा-ए-सुब्ह गुनगुनाए जैसे
ये रूप, ये लोच, ये तरन्नुम, ये निखार
बच्चा सोते में मुस्कराए जैसे”

 Firaq was famous for his presence. He used to speak without thinking. Once, he was attending a Mushaira. A lot of poet Kalam continued to study before him. Firaq has no special case. He kept waiting patiently for his turn. When his turn came, he took over the mike and immediately said,

 "Hazrat! Till now you were listening to qawwali. Now listen to something."

 Like, once Mushaira was happening in Allahabad. When Firaq Saheb stood up to read the ghazal, people started laughing. The reason was not understood by Firaq but he became angry. Said, "Today, the peanut sellers have sent their children to listen to Mushaira."

 She later noted that the poets sitting on the stage said that their pulse is hanging from the bottom of Firaq's sherwani. Then Kaifi Azmi woke up and lifted his sherwani and put a pulse in his waist. The fountain of laughter was once again untouched.

 A ghazal of Firaq became very famous.

“बहुत पहले से उन क़दमों की आहट जान लेते हैं
तुझे ऐ ज़िंदगी हम दूर से पहचान लेते हैं”

 There is a share of this ghazal. This is the ease of this shahr. Self-healing therapy of loneliness is similar to this.

 “तबीयत अपनी घबराती है जब सुनसान रातों में

हम ऐसे में तेरी यादों की चादर तान लेते हैं”

 It is also sung by Chitra and Jagjit Singh in a very beautiful way. To be heard:

Firaq is one of those chosen funkars who did not live up to mere shayari. He was a very educated man. Used to keep a deep grip on the affairs of Asia and Europe. He also wrote on religious philosophy and also on politics. Also wrote critical articles. He was proud to be his scholar. Used to say jokingly,


“In India, only two and a half people know English. One me, one Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and half Jawaharlal Nehru. "


His relations with Nehru were very friendly.

Firaq's nephew Ajayman Singh has written a book on him. 'Firaq Gorakhpuri - A Poet of Pain and Ecstasy'. He writes an anecdote in this book.

When Nehru became Prime Minister, he once came to Allahabad. When Firaq reached his house, the receptionist asked him to write the name on the slip. He wrote Raghupati Sahai. The receptionist forwarded the slip by writing R Sahay. When the call did not come even after 15 minutes, the Firaqs erupted. Shouted. Nehru came out after hearing the noise. On understanding Majra said that I have known you by the name of Raghupati for 30 years, what do I know who is this Sahay? When they took him in, Nehru saw his appearance and asked, "Are you angry?"

Firaq replied to this Sher,


"You are also foolish, almost too

See you talk to you "

Love to Nehru

There is another story related to Pandit Nehru. Once Nehru was giving a speech at Allahabad University. Sometimes he used to make factual mistakes about the events of history. There was also one at the time of this speech. The famous historian Dr. Ishwari Prasad immediately sought to rectify his mistake. There was no way out of Firaq. He screamed,

"Sit down Ishwari, you are a crammer of history and he is a creator of history," (Sit down Ishwari, you are a man who chronicles history and he is the creator of history) ".

Only one lion can be killed

Chandradharsharma Guleri became immortal by writing ‘he had said’. Even if I did not write anything, it would go on. Even if Gopaldas Neeraj broke the pen after 'the caravan passed by, he kept looking at Gubar', it didn't matter. Similarly, if Firaq had written a single lion and put a full stop on the poetry, he would have gained the same amount of love. In today's era of prejudices, this style has become even more present. There is hardly any stronger statement in favor of humanity.

“आए थे हंसते खेलते मय-ख़ाने में ‘फ़िराक़’
जब पी चुके शराब तो संजीदा हो गए”

“अब तो उन की याद भी आती नहीं
कितनी तन्हा हो गईं तन्हाइयां”

“एक मुद्दत से तिरी याद भी आई न हमें
और हम भूल गए हों तुझे ऐसा भी नहीं”

“इसी खंडहर में कहीं कुछ दिए हैं टूटे हुए
इन्हीं से काम चलाओ बड़ी उदास है रात”

“क्या जानिए मौत पहले क्या थी
अब मेरी हयात हो गई है”
