National Youth Day (Swami Vivekananda Birthday)

Every year on 12th January, National Youth Day (Youth Day or Swami Vivekananda Birthday) is celebrated in India with full enthusiasm and happiness. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the creator of modern India. It was first declared by the Government of India in the year 1984 to celebrate Swami Vivekananda's birthday as National Youth Day. Since then (1985), it has been celebrated all over the country as National Youth Day.

Why is it celebrated?
Swami Vivekananda was a great social reformer, philosopher and thinker. Its special purpose is to spread the publicity of his philosophy and ideas and to make people aware of the ideals he worked and followed in his life. He was an inspiration to all the youth across the country.

History of National Youth Day
It is well known that on 12 January, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda was declared by the Indian government to celebrate National Youth Day every year. This decision was taken by the Indian government to inspire Swami Vivekananda's philosophy and his youth towards his ideal. It was decided to celebrate the birthday of Swami Vivekananda as National Youth Day to fulfill the goal of improving the future of the country by encouraging youth through Swami Vivekananda's ideas and lifestyle.

The main goal of celebrating this is to spread the importance of Swami Vivekananda's ideals and ideas among the youth of India. This is a great way to awaken the eternal energy of the youth along with their great efforts to make India a developed country.
In 1984, for the first time, the Government of India announced the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda to celebrate National Youth Day on 12 January. Since 1985, it has been considered as National Youth Day across the country.

Swami Vivekananda
Swami Vivekananda was born on 12 January in the year 1863, on Pausha Krishna Saptami Tithi. The birthday of Swami Vivekananda is celebrated every year at the centers of Ramakrishna Mission, at the Ramakrishna Math and many of its branch centers as per Indian culture and tradition.

Activities on National Youth Day (Activities)
National Youth Day (Youth Day or Swami Vivekananda) by youth in all schools, colleges, through competition for sports, seminars, essay-writing, presentations, yogasanas, conferences, singing, music, lectures, speeches at Swami Vivekananda, parades etc. Birth day) is celebrated. To motivate the Indian youth, lectures and writings are also done by the students related to the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda.

To encourage their inner soul, to promote trust, life, art, education among the youth, who have participated in programs across India.
A two-day program for all age groups is organized by Mission Bharatiyaam in Uttar Pradesh. The event consists of dozens of activities and is known as Basti Yuva Mahotsav. Government, non-profit organizations as well as corporate groups celebrate this day in their own way.

The program commences at dawn with the worship of the holy mother Sri Sarada Devi, Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda and Swami Ramakrishnananda. A big homa (havan) is performed after worship by devotees and priests. After that the devotees offer flowers and perform the aarti of Swami Vivekananda. And finally Prasad is distributed.

Why is National Youth Day celebrated?
The thoughts, philosophy and teaching of Swami Vivekananda are great cultural and traditional assets of India. Youth is an important part of the country that moves the country forward, that's why youth are chosen first by Swami Vivekananda's ideals and ideas. Therefore, every year, National Youth Day started to inspire and encourage the honorable youth of India. To celebrate the program enthusiastically, the school and college are equipped with interesting features.

Youth day theme
The theme of 2011 was "First India."
The 2012 theme was "Celebrating Unity in Diversity."
The 2013 theme was "Awareness of Youth Power."
The 2014 theme was "Youth for a drug-free world."
The theme of 2015 was "Young Manch and Youth for Clean, Green and Progressive India." "(Its slogan was, 'We have a new beginning')".
The 2016 theme is "Indian Youth for Development, Skills and Harmony."
The theme for National Youth Day in the year 2017 was "Youth for Digital India".
The theme for National Youth Day in the year 2018 was "Sankalp se Siddha".
The 2019 theme was “Transforming education”
The theme of the National Youth Day 2020 is "Channelizing Youth Power for Nation Building"
