Let us know some information about the life of Major Dhyanchand.
early life :
Major Dhyanchand was born on 29 August 1905 in Allahabad. There were no special signs of sportsmanship in his childhood. Therefore, it can be said that the talent of the game of hockey was not innate, rather he earned this reputation through continuous practice, practice, perseverance, struggle and resolution. After getting a general education, at the age of 16, in 1922 AD, in the first Brahmin Regiment in Delhi, enlisted in the army as an ordinary soldier.
At the time, while filling in the 'First Brahmin Regiment', he did not have any special interest or interest in hockey. The credit for motivating Dhyanchand to play hockey is to Major Tiwari, a Subedar of the Regiment. Major Tiwari himself was also a lover and sportsman. Dhyanchand started playing hockey under his supervision and he became a great player of the world. In 1927 AD, Lance was made a hero. In 1932, Nayak was appointed when he went to Los Angeles. In 1937, when he was the captain of the Indian hockey team, he was made the Subedar.
Dhyanchand is considered equivalent to Pelé in football and Bradman in cricket. The ball would stick to his stick so much that the rival player often feared that he was playing with the magic stick. Even in Holland, he was seen breaking his stick in fear of having a magnet in his hockey stick. In Japan, seeing the way the ball used to stick to Dhyanchand's hockey stick, it was said that his hockey stick had glue.
There are hardly any tales of Dhyanchand's art of hockey that have been heard about any other player in the world. Seeing his artistry of hockey, the fans of hockey used to wake up saying wow-wah, but even the players of the rival team lost their intelligence and got engrossed in seeing his artistry. Fascinated by his artistry, the stubborn emperor like Rudolf Hitler of Germany offered him to play for Germany. But Dhyanchand always considered playing for India the greatest pride.
INS Dara, who played with him in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and later became the captain of Pakistan, wrote in an issue of World Hockey Magazine, "Dhyan never had high speed but he used to run slow. But he had the gap The ability to recognize was amazing. In the left flank, his brother Roop Singh and in the right flank I got the benefit of his ball distribution. After entering D, he used to shoot with such quickness and power that for the best goalkeeper in the world There was no chance. " Two-time Olympic champion Keshav Dutt told us that many people were convinced of his strong wrists and dribbling.
"But his real talent was on his mind. He could see the hockey field in the same way that a chess player would look at the chess board. He would have known without knowing which side of the field his team players and opponents were Are moving. " During the 1947 tour of East Africa, he turned his face towards his own goal after passing the ball to KD Singh Babu and did not even look towards Babu. When he was later asked the reason for his strange act, his reply was, "Even if Babu could not score a goal on that pass, he had no right to be in my team."
Major Dhyanchand is known for scoring fast goals and bringing the Olympic gold medal 3 times. Dhyanchand's real name was Dhyan Singh, but he used to practice in the light of the moon at night, so his colleagues put his name behind him. Dhyanchand was admitted as an ordinary soldier in the "First Brahmin Regiment" at the age of 16. But he went on to the rank of Major in the Indian Army. Once something happened that during a match in the Netherlands, he was seen breaking his hockey stick, with the suspicion that there was no magnet in the stick. But he did not get anything because Dhyanchand was not in the magic hockey stick.
